Dalí Universe is extremely proud to collaborate with the Cultural Center of Bucharest, ARCUB and HADRAN Events for the exhibition “Universul lui Salvador Dalí” (Salvador Dalí’s Universe). Starting on December 13th, 2023, it will be possible to explore Salvador Dalí's Universe inside the historic Hanul Gabroveni Palace in the historic district of Bucharest.
More than 170 works from the Surrealist genius, including sculptures, lithographs, gold artworks, surrealist jewelry sculptures, and surrealist furniture, will unveil Dalí’s incredible Universe.

Celebrating #Disney100
“Destino” was a short seven minute film released in 2003, produced to great acclaim, by the Walt Disney Company. It was born out of a project started in 1945 and finally completed almost 60 years later.
The central figure of the story is the “girl-skipping-rope,” one of the most well-known and representative images in Dalí's work. Through the use of the concept of “the double image”, Salvador Dalí illustrates the metamorphoses of a dancer.

Born in Chicago in 1901, the creator of Mickey Mouse and founder of Walt Disney is a legend of the 20th century that opened the doors of our imaginations and emotions.
For Dalí, Walt Disney was “the American Surrealist”.

Celebrating #Disney100
In July 1940, Dalí and Gala left France to settle in the United States, where they stayed until 1948. During these eight years, Dalí initiated numerous projects in the fields of commerce, design, painting, and film. In 1946, Salvador Dalí met Walt Disney for the first time, who asked him to collaborate on the creation of a short animated film called “Destino” intended to be part of a larger film composed of various short films.
To bring this project to life, Dalí spent eight weeks at the Disney studios in Burbank. In an interview, the Catalan artist stated the film’s objective: “to introduce the audience to Surrealism” through the story of a young girl in search of her true love.
Dalí drew hundreds of sketches and drafts but the economic crisis in the United States after the war put an end to the project. It wasn’t until 1999 that the project was brought back to light by Walt Disney’s nephew, Roy Edward Disney.

Throughout next month, we are celebrating Disney’s 100th Anniversary together with the collaboration between Walt Disney and the master of Surrealism Salvador Dalí. The mission of their project was “to initiate the public to Surrealism”.
